Osmo Little Genius vs Genius Starter Kit
Last updated: July 2026.
The short answer: it's about age. The Little Genius Starter Kit is built for ages 3–5 and teaches letters, early words and creativity. The Genius Starter Kit is built for ages 6–10 and covers math, spelling, physics and drawing. Both include the Osmo Base and work with the iPad you already have.

Choose Little Genius if…
- Your child is 3 to 5, or is just starting to recognise letters.
- They aren't reading yet — the pieces are squishy silicone, designed for small hands with no reading required to start playing.
- You want the gentlest entry point into Osmo.
Choose Genius if…
- Your child is 6 to 10, or already reads and does basic math.
- You want more academic range — five subjects instead of four, including math and physics.
- They'd find the preschool pieces too young.
What if my child is right on the line (5 or 6)?
Look at reading, not the birthday. A child who recognises letters but isn't reading sentences yet will get more out of Little Genius. A child already reading and adding will move through Little Genius quickly and be better served by Genius.
Do they work with the same iPad?
Yes — both kits work with most iPads running iPadOS 15 or newer, and both include the Osmo Base your iPad sits in. You don't need a new device, and you don't need to buy the Base twice if you later add games from the other kit.
Can I start with one and add the other?
Yes. The Base is shared across the whole Osmo system, so once you own either kit you can add individual games instead of a second full kit. That's usually the cheaper path as your child grows.
